Recommendation of the Month: Think of a solid chocolate
heart, wrapped in lavender foil, tied with a ribbon of a slightly
darker hue. What would you call such an item? If you're Lisa
Lerner Chocolates, you'd call it a Purple Heart, a perfect
gift for Mother's Day (ask any mother about being wounded in
the performance of her duties!). Whimsical presentations are
fun, but is this chocolate worth it, you ask? Absolutely. If
you want to prove that to yourself, you need look no further
than their Villettes, crisp wafers (called "tuiles") enrobed
in milk or dark chocolate. The wafers are crisp and not too
sweet, and, in combination with the chocolate, provide the perfect
accompaniment for coffee, tea, or milk (or, if you're like me,
you'll eat them by themselves).
And did I mention the truffles? Lisa Lerner Chocolates
makes a lovely variety of truffles in 3 sizes--large, medium,
and baby. The truffle interiors are smooth and creamy, with
good and true flavors; the outer shells provide the perfect
amount of textural contrast, then simply melt in your mouth.
Both Villettes and truffles are available in bulk and gift packaging,
and as you might expect the former will save you some money.
Truffles are only shipped next-day air, so you'll know they're
fresh when they arrive. Very often, when chocolates are made
with care and high standards, they require more time to produce.
