Chef Maria Ignacia Jara of Restaurant Parque Antumalal - Biography

Chef Maria Ignacia Jara was born in Santiago, Chile in 1977. Her interest in all things culinary began as a child, when she used to watch elaborate preparations for large celebrations at her grandparents’ house. Jara learned family recipes before making the decision to dedicate herself to a career in the kitchen. After finishing school she went on to study Aquaculture in Viña del Mar, on the coast of Chile.
After graduating, Jara moved to San Pedro in the Atacama Desert, in the north of Chile, to hone her craft. After working for four years as head chef in various restaurants, she returned to Santiago to develop her pastry and bakery knowledge at the Cherry Kitchen School. She went on to put that knowledge to good use, heading up the dessert and bakery section of the restaurant Mestizo in Santiago. Jara eventually tired of city life and moved to Pucón. There she is Head Chef at Hotel Antumalal, where she feels she has returned to her roots of Chilean cuisine in a beautiful environment.
