Michael Scherzberg
As the sommelier of the New Orleans Grill inside the
Windsor Court Hotel in New Orleans, Michael Scherzberg maintains a 10,000
bottle list of wines, including an exceptional selection of many Bordeaux
Grand Crus and Dom Perignon. A man of many hats, he has worked in almost
every restaurant position one could think of. He
began in the back of the house and has experience in both the culinary
and pastry departments of a number of kitchens. He turned to wine service
after a kitchen accident and built on his culinary degree with further
training from the Court of Master Sommeliers, the CIA, and Le Cordon
Bleu in Adelaide, Australia. His many hats have found homes across the
country in a variety of acclaimed restaurants before arriving in New
Orleans. Most recently he worked for the Patina Group in Los Angeles,
where he spent time as both beverage manager and dining room manager
at their restaurants Zucca, Pinot Bistro, and Pinot Hollywood, and before
his time on the West Coast he also graced the dining rooms of the American
Restaurant in Kansas City, Missouri and The Inn at Little Washington
in Virginia. In addition to his skills with wine and food, he is also,
by all accounts, a mean hand with a champagne sabre.
