Stephen
Beckta
The central figure in a New York Times article titled "Hey is
that Sommelier Old Enough To Drink", Stephen Beckta is part of
the new breed of young snooty, aloof wine know-it all". Sommelier
at Danny Meyer's Eleven Madison Park; Stephen "makes a wine list
feel like a ticket to adventure rather than an I.W. test". Graduating
from Algonquin College's Sommelier program with honors in 1997, Stephen
followed his love for wine as the Wine Director at the Ritz group
of restaurants in his hometown of Ottawa, Canada before coming to
New York. Spending the first two years in Manhattan at Daniel Boulud's
innovative Cafe Boulud, Stephen made his mark receiving two Wine Spectator
Awards of Excellence. Currently, Stephen can be found in the dining
room of EMP, pursuing his passions for both wine and "enlightened
hospitality", at what is destined to become a New York institution.
