Daniel McGee is a Bay Area native who has always admired the role a great bartender can play for his patrons. McGee’s professional career began with a barback position at a West Coast casino where he deepened his love of all things boozy and worked his way to the front of the bar. His first lead role behind the stick was in San Francisco, at cocktail lounge and club Bergerac, which was named one of Eater’s “Hottest Cocktail Bars in America” in 2013.
A recent transplant to New York, McGee now is the head bartender at Williamsburg forerunner and industry mainstay Extra Fancy. The indoor-outdoor New England-inspired hang serves tall boys alongside frozen drinks and sturdy classics. McGee enjoys incorporating his passion for comics, video games, and pop culture into his cocktails, giving them whimsical names—like the Deadpool-inspired Regenerating Degenerate cocktail—and bright pops of color. He one day aims to run his own small, single spirit specific bar, modeled after one of his favorite New York spots Amor y Amargo. In his spare time you can find McGee cosplaying as some of his favorite comic and cartoon characters and gently tucking his Jameson bottles into their respective beds and kissing them goodnite.
