Hayley Teague’s first job in the service industry was as a barista in Spanish Fort, Alabama. She remained in the front of house through college at the University of South Alabama, where she served at Rising Stars alum Richard Blais’s Flip Burger. She was promoted to bartender in 2011, and was awed by the cocktail program—classic cocktails with gastronomical twists. Wanting to expand her knowledge, Teague joined the US Bartenders Guild, connecting with fellow bar pros who encouraged her to continue learning and experimenting.
When Flip Burger opened a new location in Nashville, Teague seized the chance to explore a new city. Before long, she was jumping around town, shaking drinks at any high-volume bar that needed an extra hand. In 2015, she landed a lead bartender role at City Winery, where she was able to dip her toe into the winemaking process, achieve her Level 1 sommelier certification, and flex her creative muscles for their custom events program. Teague picked up a part-time job at vegetable-driven neighborhood restaurant Hathorne in 2018 and was promoted to beverage director a few months later. In addition to designing fresh takes on approachable cocktails that highlight seasonal ingredients, Teague is a leader in the Nashville bar scene, regularly hosting interactive bar classes and demonstrations. She also writes a monthly beverage article for Belle Meade Lifestyle, passing on the broad knowledge she has gained over the course of her career.
