Ivy Knight was introduced to the food world at the age of 19, working as a dishwasher in a fish and chips kitchen in British Columbia. Transitioning to line cook, Knight spent the next decade working back of house in restaurants around the United States and Canada. When she realized that her experience working long shifts in hectic, sometimes abusive kitchens was not being represented in food media, Knight began writing while continuing to cook in order to pay the bills.

Since 2009, Knight’s works have been published in numerous publications including The Globe and Mail, Vice, Playboy, and West End Phoenix. In 2014, Knight co-wrote The Everyday Squash Cook along with her husband, writer Kerry Night. She is also the creator and host of Industry Sessions, a speaker series for restaurant professionals that is currently touring the United States. As a cultural programmer, Knight developed Canada’s largest industry night, 86’d Mondays, at the Drake Hotel in Toronto. The event has hosted chefs and food personalities from around the world including René Redzepi, Gail Simmons, Christina Tosi and Anthony Bourdain. In 2019, Knight was nominated for the Landsberg Award, an accolade presented by the Canadian Journalism Foundation that celebrates a journalist who is raising awareness about women’s equality issues in Canada.
