Liz Clayman’s first photographs were of the family cat. Even as a child, she was drawn behind the lens. Clayman studied fine art photography at Bennington College in Vermont, and, after graduating, she moved from sleepy New England to New York City where the diversity of things at which to point her camera were seemingly limitless.
To supplement her burgeoning photography career, she took a part-time gig in a West Village restaurant and became completely enamored with the rhythm, work ethic, and flavor of hospitality. Clayman began shooting food at home, as well as in restaurants. As her Instagram feed flourished, so did her bookings.
Now specializing in food and lifestyle photography and portraiture, Clayman photographed her first cookbook, The Mediterranean Family Table by Angelo Acquista M.D., in 2015, and she is working on Jenn Sit’s upcoming Bread & Salt Between Us. In 2016, The Taste Talks Food & Drink Awards nominated her as “Best Photographer.”
Clayman shoots for a range of clients including The New York Times, New York Magazine, José Andrés’ ThinkFoodGroup, SoHo House, and The Wing. She is currently the photo editor of Edible Brooklyn and Edible Manhattan. Occasionally a cat turns up on her Instagram.
