Nicolas Delaroque

Nico | San Francisco

JUNE 2019

Nicolas Delaroque grew up in Rueil-Malmaison, a small town on the outskirts of Paris. When he was 14 and his parents asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, Delaroque knew he loved eating and figured becoming a chef was his best option to continue this favorite activity. At 15, he began an apprenticeship and then went to culinary school in Paris. Upon graduating, Delaroque cooked professionally in Paris, as well as in Corsica during the summer and the Alps in winter.

After spending time in Australia and Canada, Delaroque followed an old friend to San Francisco in 2008, where he set out to work for the best in the Bay Area: Dominique Crenn during her tenure at Luce at the InterContinental Hotel and then David Kinch at Manresa. After taking time off to travel with his wife, Andrea—all the while finding inspiration for their own restaurant—Delaroque opened Nico in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco in 2013. Nico earned a Michelin star in 2016, and Delaroque moved the restaurant to Jackson Square two years later, adding lunch and bar menus to reach even more customers with his modern French cuisine. In 2019, Nico earned back it’s Michelin star in it’s new location.
