Growing up on Cape Cod, Ramsey Musk watched his grandparents make family dinners and felt drawn to hospitality at a young age. While attending college in Boston, Musk started working in restaurants, but always wanted to try his hand at bartending, so he picked up shifts at local dive bars. In 2016, Musk moved to Los Angeles for grad school, but quickly realized it wasn’t the right fit. Unsure what to do next, but still left with bills to pay, he dove back into the industry. He got a job at Rising Stars alum Walter Manzke’s Petty Cash Taqueria, where, during a bartending basics class, he found that the science behind cocktail making resonated with him. He got a bartending job at Sotto and was promoted to his first leadership position.
Musk then moved to the Avalon Hotel where he revamped the hotel’s bar, focusing on produce-driven, experimental cocktails, before he was asked to consult on the bar program at The Proper Santa Monica. After a short break, Musk was soon drawn in again when a friend encouraged him to help out at Ma’am Sir, where he embraced the restaurant’s Filipino flavors, created a tropical cocktail menu, and incorporated a batching system. Then, at Guerrilla Tacos, he went on to build an agave-heavy bar program with a focus on sustainable producers.
In December 2022, Musk joined the team at Little Fatty's Accomplice Bar as beverage director. There, he has placed an emphasis on education and, outside of hosting tastings and training classes (open to anyone in the industry), has created exciting programming for the bar, including monthly Tropical Nights and ‘Hot Dogs and Highballs’ every other week. Now with his own pop-up, Mama’s Boy, in the works, Musk hopes to share more of his crafty, high-tech cocktails, like his Yacht Club with buttermilk-clarified herb-infused aquavit, Empirical Soka, bergamot liqueur, verjus, and sparkling wine.
