Zach Coleman, a Denton, Texas, native and self-proclaimed metalhead, graduated from the University of North Texas with a degree in English. In graduate school, while he studied technical communications, Coleman worked three jobs—one of which involved writing user manuals for banking software. Thirsty for something that wasn’t work or school related, he started home-brewing on the side.
In 2011, two years after he began brewing, Coleman turned his growing passion for beer into a profession. He quit his jobs and headed from the flatlands to the Rockies. Coleman began volunteering at Upslope Brewing in Boulder before taking on the role of head brewer at Big Choice Brewing. In 2013, Coleman was hired to helm to the brew program at TRVE Brewing Co., owned by fellow metalhead Nick Nunns.
Coleman and his team have grown TRVE from a three-barrel system to a bustling brewpub. He also runs the Acid Temple, a 7,000-square-foot brew space, where he experiments with spontaneous fermentation and the souring side of their roster. “Style blasphemers,” TRVE beers can be found across the country—from Colorado to Massachusetts and North Carolina to Washington.
