After high school, Felicia Colbert followed her heart to the Culinary Institute of America. But the more pragmatic, pre-law life beckoned, and she consequently enrolled at the University of Maryland. At the time, she gained fine-dining experience with front of house gigs at Washington, D.C. restaurants including Bryan Voltaggio’s Range. Upon earning her undergrad diploma, Colbert rejected a law school offer, deciding instead to travel through Spain. She napped between meals at Michelin-star restaurants and soaked in all the excellence.
Since 2017, Colbert has served as sommelier and wine director at The Line hotel in D.C. Hyper-local, fine-dining A Rake’s Progress from James Beard Award-winning Chef Spike Gjerde is the jewel in her crown. There, Colbert has built a tight list that takes guests from the Mid-Atlantic (think Virginia and New York) around the world (Italian Pét-Nats to Sherry and Madeira) and back again. Soon to take her Advanced exam with the Court of Master Sommeliers (with an eye on that Master's pin), Colbert brings dynamism, authority, and approachability to the dining room—and more than anything else, she brings joy.
