Designer Hannah Collins spent her adolescence running around her parents’ southwestern restaurant in Riverside, California. While pursuing a degree in interior architecture and design at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, Collins waited tables at popular Italian restaurant Beretta. When she heard owner Adriano Paganini was opening Lolinda in 2012, an Argentinian steakhouse across the street, she jumped at the opportunity to combine her hospitality experience with her design skills and asked to be part of the project. Paganini agreed, landing Collins her first design gig, crafting Lolinda’s sultry dining room.
Collins continued working with Paganini on his other Bay Area hotspots including Delarosa, Belga, A Mano, Barvale, and Super Duper. In 2013, she combined forces with her older sister Emily to form Hannah Collins Design and expand their scope beyond Paganini’s venues. In 2018, with an all-female team of eight, they rebranded as ROY— their grandfather’s middle name. Collins has led the team in dozens of projects including champagne bar The Riddler, brewpub Dogpatch, and nautical-themed restaurant Sam’s. ROY has received praise from Eater, Bon Appétit, San Francisco Chronicle, and KQED.
