Born in Rome, Georgia, Evan Milliman made his way down to Atlanta to study at Art Institute, where he earned an associates degree in digital media and sported a mohawk. In 2008, he found himself swept into the world of hospitality at Holeman & Finch. Having landed in one of Atlanta’s most lauded restaurants, Milliman found a mentor in Barman and Co-owner Greg Best, and he worked his way up from server to bartender, honing his craft and learning the fine art of hospitality.
Milliman took a formative gap year to Australia to bartend and help out with cocktail menus. The experience opened his eyes to the complexity of spirits like brandy and rum, and he began to experiment with a slew syrups and blended modifiers. Back in the States, in 2012, Milliman took over the bar program at Billy Allin’s Cakes & Ale in Decatur.
When Best and a group of peers—Regan Smith, Paul Calvert, David Bies, and Bart Sasso—began to plan their own spot, Milliman signed on to help build their vision of a casual, classics-forward, hospitality-first bar. Ticonderoga Club was born in Krog Street Market late in 2015 with Milliman as bar manager. Unpretentious and true to its original concept, Ticonderoga quickly became the center of the Atlanta bartending universe and earned Eater Atlanta’s 2016 “Restaurant of the Year.”
